When I got together with my husband, I genuinely believed I had done the hard part.
I had learned to hold my standards. I stopped trying to control the pace. I let him come toward me. I received what I had spent so long trying to create.
And then we moved in together. And then I got pregnant. And then our first baby arrived.
And I went full-blown masculine energy, project manager, overfunctioning, carrying everything, wondering what had happened to the woman I had worked so hard to become.
I knew the tools. I literally teach the tools.
But the emotional demand of that chapter was completely different from anything dating had asked of me.
The version of me who could hold one chapter of my relationship needed greater capacity for the next.
Then life kept changing the conditions. There were career changes. My husband lost his job and I became the primary breadwinner for a period of time. We relocated, and eventually had to admit the move we'd made wasn't right for us.
